Ryan Giggs believes Cole Palmer could fit into Manchester United’s attack alongside Bruno Fernandes, despite the player downplaying transfer talk.
Ryan Giggs believes Cole Palmer could become part of Manchester United’s attacking setup, even alongside Bruno Fernandes.
The United legend shared his view as speculation continues around Palmer’s future at Chelsea, where the 23-year-old has endured a difficult season.
Manchester United already invested heavily in attack last summer, signing Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth over £200 million.
Those additions have helped Michael Carrick’s team move close to securing a Champions League place, but Giggs believes more creativity is still needed.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents channel, he explained how Palmer could fit into the system.
"Yeah, he would fit. He's a Manchester lad. Where would he play with Bruno? He could play off the right," Giggs said.
"It's only really Bruno creating things consistently. If he has a bad day or gets injured, you need others who can make things happen."
Palmer has struggled for consistency this season, dealing with injuries and a drop in form. He has scored 10 goals across competitions, with nine in the Premier League, but only five from open play.
The wider situation at Chelsea has not helped. The club is on a poor run, with four straight league defeats without scoring and only one win in the last 12 matches outside the FA Cup.
Despite the speculation, Palmer has tried to shut down talk of a move.
"Everyone just talks. When I see it, I laugh. I’ve got no plans to move from Chelsea," he said.
Still, he admitted that missing out on the Champions League could change things.
"If we're not in the Champions League, everything changes," he added.
With Palmer’s background as a Manchester-born player and former United fan, links are unlikely to fade.
For now, the situation remains open. United sees a potential fit, Chelsea faces uncertainty, and Palmer’s future may depend on how the season ends.
