Dušan Vlahović scored two goals in Juventus' 3-0 victory against Genoa, but one of them was celebrated with a gesture interpreted by many as a response to his critics – a "keep talking" motion with his left hand. Now, he’s facing new criticism for that move.
Paolo Di Canio, a retired footballer who played for many of Italy's top clubs and won the UEFA Cup with Juventus in the 1992/93 season, shared his thoughts on the Serbian striker’s actions. So far this season, Vlahović has netted four goals in six matches – two against Verona and two now against Genoa.
Di Canio: He proves he’s not a great player
"That’s what small players do. He’s a great footballer, but actions like this show that he’s not a great player. His behavior doesn’t reflect that of top players. Yes, he scored from a penalty, which is never easy, and then he scored another goal. But he did this against Genoa, the team with the biggest problems in the league, and in a match without fans," Di Canio remarked.
"It's not like he scored against title contenders. Even if he did, it would still be wrong, but it would have a different significance. He wears an important shirt. Vlahović plays for Juventus. Score twice against direct competitors, then you can act arrogantly, but scoring two goals like this against Genoa behind closed doors is like a friendly match," Di Canio added.
