The brutal assault on Teleoptik head coach and former Partizan Belgrade captain, Marko Jovanović, has taken a chilling and sinister turn. Speaking exclusively to investigative outlets, Jovanović confirmed the identity of his attackers inside the "Zemunelo" training complex. Among the three hooligans who beat him was Đorđe Prelić, the notorious former leader of the Partizan ultra subgroup "Alkatraz," who was heavily convicted for his role in the infamous 2009 murder of French football fan Brice Taton.
To understand the gravity of the threat against Marko Jovanović, one must look back to September 2009, an event that remains one of the darkest stains on European football culture.
Before a UEFA Europa League match between Partizan Belgrade and Toulouse, a group of French fans, including 28-year-old Brice Taton, were peacefully drinking at a bar in Belgrade’s city center. A coordinated, savage ambush by Partizan’s "Alkatraz" firm, led by Đorđe Prelić, descended upon them. Taton was brutally beaten with iron bars, baseball bats, and flares, before being thrown over a multi-meter-high retaining wall. He suffered catastrophic brain, lung, and pelvic injuries, tragically passing away in a Belgrade hospital twelve days later.
Prelić immediately fled the country, becoming an international fugitive. He was captured in Spain years later and extradited to Serbia. Initially sentenced to 35 years in prison for aggravated murder, his sentence was controversially reduced to 10 years through a series of legal appeals. He was released on parole in 2021 after serving two-thirds of his time. Recently, investigative portal CINS revealed that Prelić had even set up a construction company in June 2025, landing contracts related to the state-backed "EXPO" project.
From the Streets to the Training Ground
Now, Prelić is back in the headlines for football-related violence. According to Marko Jovanović, Prelić and Aleksandar Vuković—a prominent member of another radical Partizan firm called the "Vandali"—confronted and physically assaulted him at his workplace.
The realization that convicted murderers and high-profile criminals can freely breach the security of the "Zemunelo" sports center has sent shockwaves through the club. It fully explains why Jovanović is now determined to submit his irrevocable resignation. Crossing paths with individuals of this criminal caliber poses an immediate, tangible threat to the life of the young manager and his family.
FK Partizan has urgently demanded a rigorous state intervention. Meanwhile, public attention turns to a high-stakes, emergency meeting scheduled between the distressed manager and the president of Partizan's temporary institutional board, Rasim Ljajić.
