Despite summer transfer rumours and a dip in form, Paul Mullin is backed by Lee Trundle to remain Wrexham’s hero and lead their push toward the Premier League.
Paul Mullin has scored 110 goals for Wrexham and was instrumental in the club’s fairytale rise through the leagues. But after a tough 2024-25 season, questions are now being asked about his future.
The 30-year-old forward netted just five goals last season as he struggled for form and fitness, sliding down the pecking order amid increased competition. Still, Mullin remains a fan favourite and a symbol of Wrexham’s Hollywood-backed success story.
Despite the transfer rumours, he is under contract until 2027 and still enjoys strong backing from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. He is expected to play a role in the club’s campaign to win promotion to the Premier League.
Lee Trundle, a former Wrexham striker, believes Mullin’s struggles are temporary. Speaking on the Fearless in Devotion podcast, he defended the striker’s ability and importance to the team.
“If you take the goals that Mulls scores and the amount that he scores, you don't just lose that overnight,” Trundle said. “He had injuries at the start of the season, which kept him out.”
“When you're used to scoring that many goals each season, as soon as you go through that little bad patch, it does affect you as a striker, and it would affect him.”
“He's been the talisman for the team and he's been the one who's scored all the goals. Let's be fair, he's been one of the main reasons for Wrexham's success.”
“He did hit that bad patch, but I do think that he could come back next season, because he's got it in him. I do think that he's a quality player.”
Wrexham have already released veteran striker Steven Fletcher, and Ollie Palmer's future remains uncertain. These decisions could open the door for Mullin to return to the spotlight.
He’s expected to feature in Wrexham’s pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand, giving him the perfect chance to prove he’s still got what it takes to lead the line.
