Wrexham legend Paul Mullin could be set to leave the club, with League One side Wigan Athletic leading the race for his signature.

Paul Mullin is close to leaving Wrexham after three legendary seasons, with talks progressing over a loan move to Wigan Athletic. According to the Daily Mail, the 30-year-old forward is expected to depart temporarily as Wrexham prepare for life in the Championship.

Mullin has scored 110 goals since joining the Red Dragons in 2021, becoming a talisman in their back-to-back promotions. His goals, passion, and connection with the fans made him a symbol of the club’s Hollywood-backed rise under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

However, his role has diminished since January following rumoured tension with manager Phil Parkinson. Despite Mullin downplaying talk of a rift, he spent more time on the bench as new forwards like Sam Smith, Jay Rodriguez, and Ryan Hardie arrived.

Wrexham now appear to be reshaping the squad for the Championship, and although Mullin is still under contract, a move to League One could offer him regular minutes and a chance to rediscover form.

Despite the likely departure, Wrexham fans will never forget Mullin’s contribution to their historic climb back through the leagues. A successful loan at Wigan could yet open the door for a return to North Wales next season.
