Paulo Dybala secures his Roma contract extension through 2026 after meeting the club’s performance criteria, silencing rumors of a Boca Juniors move.
Paulo Dybala has fulfilled the minimum playing time requirement set by Roma for the 2024/2025 season, ensuring the automatic renewal of his contract with the Italian club. This condition was established due to the recurring injuries Dybala has faced since joining the team. By surpassing the threshold, his agreement with La Loba now extends until June 2026.
The pivotal moment occurred on January 23 during Roma's Europa League match against AZ Alkmaar, where Dybala played the full 90 minutes. This marked his 18th match of the season in which he exceeded 45 minutes of playing time—a crucial stipulation for his renewal. Matches where he featured less than 45 minutes were not counted toward the requirement.
“Yes, the renewal with Dybala is official, and we are very happy about it. He is a leader, an essential player for this team, and a symbol for the club and its fans,” said Roma's sporting director Florien Ghisolfi in an interview with DAZN before Roma's match against Udinese.
Further details of the new deal emerged, with La Gazzetta dello Sport revealing that the contract includes a significant salary increase—reportedly reaching €8 million annually—and now officially runs until June 30, 2026.
This announcement also quashes rumors of a potential move to Boca Juniors, at least for now. Speculation had grown as Boca continued negotiations to bring in Dybala's Roma teammate Leandro Paredes during either the winter or summer transfer window.
The Argentine forward has accumulated 1,486 minutes across 25 matches in Serie A and the Europa League this season. He has scored five goals—against Tottenham, Torino, AC Milan, and twice against Parma—and provided three assists.
