Ivan Perišić was dealt a blow after Barcelona informed his agent he’s not a transfer priority. Despite his desire to join, he’s now likely to stay at PSV.
Ivan Perišić, fresh off a successful title-winning season with PSV Eindhoven, received disappointing news this morning as his dream of joining Barcelona was put on hold.
The experienced Croatian, currently on vacation after a strong campaign in the Netherlands, was hopeful of a fairytale move to Camp Nou—even offering to accept a minimum wage, a bench role, and a short-term deal to make it happen.
Perišić had reportedly impressed Hansi Flick, and talks had intensified, with the 35-year-old willing to forgo PSV’s two-year offer in order to fulfill a final career dream.
However, Spanish media report that this morning, his agent was informed that Barcelona would not be prioritizing his signing and may only revisit the option later in the window—if he's still available. The news, described as difficult for Perišić, left him visibly disappointed.
The Croatian winger’s season began turbulently with Hajduk Split, where he was dropped by Gennaro Gattuso, prompting an exit and a bold move to PSV. That gamble paid off, as he played a key role in their Eredivisie title win.
With PSV keen to keep him and a new contract already on the table, the club now awaits a response. Perišić’s European ambition may have been dented, but a return to the Champions League with PSV remains a strong possibility.
