Philippe Coutinho, still one of the most expensive footballers in history, wants to continue his career at his home club.
At 31, Philippe Coutinho should still be at his peak, but he seems like a veteran who can only reminisce about his days as one of the most admired players in the Premier League.
This season, the former Liverpool and Barcelona star played on loan for Al Duhail in Qatar, and now Aston Villa is looking for a way to offload him, despite his contract running until 2026.
Coutinho wants to return home, and his original club, Vasco da Gama, has shown interest. Vasco da Gama recently ended its partnership with 777 Partners and is reportedly in takeover negotiations with Liverpool's owners, FSG.
Vasco da Gama is prepared to pay between $5 and $7 million for Coutinho. While this is twenty times less than what Barcelona paid Liverpool, Aston Villa is likely to accept due to the lack of interest from other clubs.
Coutinho spent nine years in Vasco da Gama's youth system and played one season in their senior team on loan from Inter.
