Porto have confirmed that Barcelona will receive only €13m from Nico Gonzalez’s €60m move to Manchester City after adjustments to the deal.
Manchester City secured the signing of Nico Gonzalez from Porto on deadline day in a deal worth €60 million, but Barcelona’s expected windfall from the transfer has taken a significant hit.
Initially, Barça were set to receive 40% of the transfer fee, amounting to approximately €24 million, due to a sell-on clause in the midfielder’s contract. However, Porto have now confirmed adjustments that drastically reduce the Spanish club’s earnings.
In an official statement, Porto revealed that they had exercised an option to purchase 20% of Barcelona’s sell-on rights in advance for €3 million, leaving Barça with only 20% of the capital gains from the deal. Additionally, Porto have canceled Barcelona’s €30m buy-back clause, which was originally valid until June 30, 2025.
As a result, instead of the €24 million they had anticipated, Barcelona will pocket just €13 million from Gonzalez’s transfer to Pep Guardiola’s side.
The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a six-year contract with Manchester City, joining a squad already packed with midfield talent as Guardiola continues to strengthen his options for the future.
