Newcastle United visit Manchester City, but other Premier League fixtures could impact the season’s outlook—a breakdown of what to expect from the weekend’s games.
The latest round of Premier League fixtures brings plenty of intriguing matchups, with Newcastle United traveling to face Manchester City on Saturday at 3 PM. While Eddie Howe’s side battles the champions, other fixtures could shape the standings. Here’s a look at the key games from a Newcastle United perspective.
Saturday 15 February
Leicester v Arsenal (12:30 PM)
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 14 Premier League matches since losing 1-0 at St James' Park in November. Meanwhile, Leicester have lost eight of their last nine and seem unlikely to cause an upset. However, any dropped points for Arsenal would benefit Newcastle’s position in the table.
Aston Villa v Ipswich (3:00 PM)
Villa have been inconsistent, winning only two of their last seven. Ipswich had an impressive 2-0 win over Chelsea recently but have since lost four straight. Villa are favorites, but an Ipswich result could shake things up.
Fulham v Nottingham Forest (3:00 PM)
Forest have been in excellent form, losing just one of their last 10 and winning eight. Fulham, while solid, have drawn six of their last 12 matches. A draw would likely be the most favorable outcome from a Newcastle United perspective.
Manchester City v Newcastle United (3:00 PM)
A massive test for Newcastle as they face Pep Guardiola’s side. A win would significantly boost Newcastle’s top-four hopes, but it will take a near-perfect performance to claim all three points at the Etihad.
Southampton v Bournemouth (5:30 PM)
Bournemouth were unbeaten in 11 matches before losing to Liverpool last time out. Southampton finally ended a 13-game winless streak with a shock 2-1 win over Ipswich. The Saints will need another surprise result to boost their survival hopes.
West Ham v Brentford (8:00 PM)
Both teams sit comfortably mid-table, unlikely to challenge for Europe or be dragged into a relegation battle. A game that could go either way but with no major implications.
Crystal Palace v Everton (Sunday, 2:00 PM)
Similar to West Ham vs Brentford, this matchup has little significance at either end of the table. Palace have been in slightly better form, but a draw wouldn’t be surprising.
Liverpool v Wolves (Sunday, 4:30 PM)
Wolves have been inconsistent, but a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Aston Villa last time out will give them confidence. Liverpool, unbeaten in 20 league matches, will be heavy favorites, but Newcastle fans may hope for an upset to slow down the league leaders.
Tottenham v Manchester United (Sunday, 7:00 PM)
Both teams have been struggling for form. Man Utd have won just three of their last 11 matches, while Spurs have managed only two wins in their last 11. A game between two sides fighting for European places but offering little consistency.
