With Florian Wirtz leaning towards Liverpool, Bayern Munich have turned their attention to AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, who is seen as a dynamic alternative for the attack.
Bayern Munich are reportedly intensifying their interest in Rafael Leao after falling behind in the race to sign Florian Wirtz, who is now heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.
While Bayern have not yet officially ended their pursuit of Wirtz — as Leverkusen and Liverpool still need to agree on a transfer fee — German media claim the Bavarian giants are actively exploring high-profile alternatives.
Among the names floated in recent days are Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace and Kaoru Mitoma from Brighton, but today Sky Germany reports that Bayern have shifted focus to AC Milan’s Portuguese winger Rafael Leao.
Leao has long hinted at his desire to play for a more ambitious club, and his future at Milan remains uncertain despite his contract running until 2028. His blend of pace, creativity, and versatility makes him a highly attractive option for a Bayern side seeking more attacking firepower.
Legendary midfielder Lothar Matthäus has endorsed the potential transfer, saying: "Bayern need some fresh air in this position. Rafael Leao would be a good solution. He plays on the left but can also move centrally, which is very important. Bayern need someone who can rotate with Harry Kane."
This season, the 25-year-old Leao has recorded 12 goals and 13 assists in 50 appearances for Milan, continuing to be one of Serie A’s most dynamic attacking threats.
Bayern’s summer rebuild appears to be gaining momentum as they seek to bounce back from a disappointing season. If the Wirtz deal collapses, Leao could quickly become the club’s top offensive priority.
