Austria national team coach Ralf Rangnick has convinced promising Olimpija winger Raul Florucz to commit internationally to Austria despite Romania's significant interest.
Raul Florucz earned his first call-up to the Austrian national team after an outstanding season with Olimpija, scoring and assisting a combined total of 17 goals.
Florucz’s decision marks a significant success for Rangnick, who praised the young talent in a recent interview with Austrian media: "I spoke to him on the phone and he was very happy. This reaction tells me that we have got a good young footballer."
The 21-year-old winger previously faced strong interest from Romania, but Rangnick’s personal intervention ensured Florucz chose Austria.
Explaining his decision, Rangnick stated: "He is a left-footed player who plays on the right wing, so 17 goals and assists is a very good result. Raul was very happy when we spoke. His reaction tells me that we have got a good young footballer."
Florucz described his call-up emotionally, saying: "I was speechless." The announcement arrives ahead of Austria's upcoming match, which has already drawn considerable excitement, with 17,000 tickets sold in advance.
This selection ends Romania’s intensive pursuit of Florucz, marking a milestone in his emerging international career.
