Rasmus Højlund officially completed his permanent move to Napoli and shared an emotional farewell message to Manchester United supporters.
Rasmus Højlund is officially a Napoli player after the Italian club secured qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Napoli confirmed their place among Europe’s elite after a 3-0 victory over Pisa, which activated the clause obligating the club to complete the permanent signing of the Danish striker.
According to reports from England, the transfer is worth around €44 million.
After the move became official, Højlund shared an emotional farewell message to Manchester United supporters.
The 23-year-old posted a photo celebrating a goal and admitted the moment carried mixed emotions.
“That goal was symbolic because it means two things. We secured the Champions League with Napoli, which means that I am now officially a Napoli player by contract and that I am saying goodbye to Manchester United.”
Højlund revealed he already felt deeply connected to Napoli long before the transfer became permanent.
“It feels strange because I have been feeling like a Napoli player for the last year.”
“The fans have welcomed me in a way that made me feel at home, they have given me back my confidence and for that I am immensely grateful.”
Despite finding success in Italy, the striker admitted that leaving Old Trafford was still emotional.
“Saying goodbye to Manchester United is emotional. As a child, I dreamed of playing at Old Trafford in the red shirt, and that dream has come true for me.”
“I would like to thank all the fans, players and staff at Manchester United who have helped me realise my childhood dream.”
“Now it is time for a new dream. Let’s go after it.”
Højlund joined Manchester United in 2023 and scored 14 Premier League goals across two seasons in England.
However, his form improved significantly after moving to Serie A.
The Denmark international has scored 11 goals for Napoli this season and still has one match remaining before the campaign concludes.
Napoli supporters now hope Højlund will become a central figure in the club’s next Champions League adventure.
