Raul Florucz starred in Olimpija’s win over LASK, highlighting his talent to Austrian fans and casting doubt on his future with Austria’s national team.
Raul Florucz provided the assist for Olimpija’s first goal against LASK and consistently troubled the Austrian side. Austrian fans had a close-up view of the player they may one day regret losing.
Having once been a prospect at LASK, Florucz left Austria at 18 for a fresh start in Croatia with Lokomotiva Zagreb. However, his development stagnated, and he eventually moved to Slovenia in relative obscurity, where he has since become a vital player for Olimpija. His breakthrough came in the latter half of last season, and in the new campaign, he has undoubtedly become Olimpija’s standout performer.
Florucz is known for his confidence on the ball, technical skill, and creativity, making him both a goal threat and a playmaker. In the match against LASK, he was a constant challenge for the Austrian defense, especially with his decisive pass for Olimpija’s opening goal. Austrian journalists also took notice, raising the question of whether Austria is missing out on a talented player who is now close to securing Romanian citizenship due to his parents’ heritage. Romanian national team coach Mircea Lucescu has already expressed interest in bringing him into the squad.
“This match was special for me, emotional,” Florucz admitted afterward, referring to the presence of family and friends in the stands.
Asked about his potential involvement with the Austrian national team, given coach Ralf Rangnick’s possible interest, Florucz responded: “I don’t think about things like that. I just play football. If anyone needs me, they’ll reach out.” Yet, sources confirm that Florucz has already decided to represent Romania at the international level.
