Real Madrid confirmed that young Argentine Franco Mastantuono has been sidelined with a sports hernia, opening the door for Brazilians Rodrygo and Endrick to earn more playing time.
Real Madrid have confirmed that young Argentine midfielder Franco Mastantuono is suffering from pubalgia, commonly known as a sports hernia — an injury affecting the soft tissues of the lower abdomen and groin, often caused by repetitive strain and overuse.
Mastantuono, who has earned the trust of coach Xabi Alonso in his debut season, will now face a spell on the sidelines, though the exact recovery period remains unclear. The club is expected to monitor his progress closely in the coming weeks.
The 18-year-old has been one of the most promising breakthroughs at Madrid this term, making 12 appearances, scoring once, and providing an assist. His injury, however, could now pave the way for Rodrygo and Endrick to stake their claim for more minutes — both of whom have struggled for consistent playing time under Alonso.
Endrick, who arrived amid much fanfare, has featured for only 11 minutes this season, while Rodrygo has made 14 appearances, mostly as a substitute. With Mastantuono sidelined, Alonso could look to the two Brazilians to add attacking depth and creativity in the coming fixtures.
For Madrid, the timing of Mastantuono’s injury comes as a setback in their tightly packed schedule, but also an opportunity for others to step up as they continue to compete across multiple fronts this season.
