Raul Asencio has been fined €14,400 and banned from driving for eight months, while the Real Madrid player also faces separate serious criminal allegations.

Real Madrid footballer Raul Asencio has been convicted of drink driving after being stopped by police during a routine check in the south of Gran Canaria on August 16.
According to Spanish outlet Atlantico Hoy, Asencio was driving through a tourist area when officers stopped him and recorded a breath-alcohol level of 0.90 milligrams per litre. The legal limit cited in the report is 0.25 mg/l.
The reading resulted in Asencio being found guilty of a criminal road-safety offence. The Real Madrid player accepted the punishment through a summary procedure before a court in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
Asencio was ordered to pay a €14,400 fine, while his driving licence has been suspended for eight months.
Separate court proceedings still ahead
The drink-driving conviction comes as Asencio is also due to appear before a court in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in an unrelated case involving much more serious allegations.
Asencio and three former Real Madrid players – Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez and Andres Garcia – are facing proceedings over alleged disclosure of confidential information and breach of privacy, as well as allegations relating to the distribution of child sexual abuse material.
Those allegations are separate from the drink-driving conviction and remain subject to court proceedings. Asencio has not been convicted of those offences.
According to the report, prosecutors are seeking a sentence of two years, six months and one day in prison, in addition to a fine, if he is convicted in that case.
