Thibaut Courtois reminded everyone yesterday why many consider him the best goalkeeper in the world over the past few years.

After a long eight-month absence, Thibaut Courtois returned to Real Madrid's goal on May 4th, reclaiming the position well-covered by his deputy Andriy Lunin this season. Despite Lunin’s crucial role in several of Real's significant victories, Spanish media speculated that the Ukrainian should be given the nod for the biggest match of the season. However, it seems this will not happen, as Courtois immediately demonstrated his dominance upon returning from injury.

Real Madrid's 5-0 victory over Alaves yesterday was highlighted by an outstanding performance from Courtois, who made 10 saves. He was at his best, saving seemingly impossible shots, showing that his long absence hadn’t affected his prowess.

On the contrary, Courtois claims that the bitter experience has made him even stronger.

"I feel great. I understand there were concerns about my return, but I knew within myself that I was strong. I'm the same old Courtois… maybe even better than before," said the brilliant Belgian, adding:

"Maybe I needed exactly this kind of game with lots of shots, reactions, and saves… I'm proud."
