Real Madrid youngster Thiago Pitarch must decide between Spain and Morocco as the promising midfielder gains attention after his first-team breakthrough.
Thiago Pitarch, one of the newest young talents emerging at Real Madrid, now faces an important international decision that could shape his future career.
The 18-year-old midfielder comes from Fuenlabrada near Madrid and developed through several academies around the Spanish capital, including Atletico Madrid, Getafe, and Leganes, before joining the youth system of Real Madrid.
This season the talented playmaker made his first steps onto the big stage with the Spanish giants, quickly attracting attention from national team scouts.
However, the interest does not come from only one federation.
Although Pitarch currently represents the Spain U20 national team and made his debut last year, he also holds a strong connection to Morocco.
His grandfather was born in the North African country, which allows Pitarch to represent the Moroccan national team as well.
Morocco already showed interest earlier by inviting him to join their U18 national squad.
The situation now places the young midfielder in a classic international dilemma faced by many players with multicultural backgrounds.
Choosing Morocco could potentially offer a faster path to the senior national team, where young players often receive opportunities earlier.
On the other hand, wearing the shirt of Spain could open the door to competing for the biggest international trophies in world football.
Inside Real Madrid, there is a belief that Pitarch is taking a patient approach and does not feel pressure to make a quick decision.
The timing of the situation adds another interesting layer. The 2030 World Cup will be hosted jointly by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal, meaning both countries could play key roles on football’s biggest stage.
At club level the young midfielder already collected five appearances for Real Madrid. Three of those came in the Champions League, including a notable appearance against Manchester City, where he spent 76 minutes on the pitch.
With his career now accelerating, the question surrounding Thiago Pitarch is no longer whether he has talent, but which national team will ultimately benefit from it.
