Real Madrid, facing criticism for boycotting the Ballon d'Or, has instead focused on supporting flood victims in Valencia, donating €1 million for relief efforts.
Following a turbulent Ballon d'Or ceremony, where Real Madrid faced criticism for boycotting the event, the Spanish giants have made a strong statement with actions rather than words. Real Madrid has announced a generous €1 million donation to aid victims of the recent devastating floods in Valencia.
Since Monday’s Ballon d'Or event, Real Madrid has chosen to remain silent on accusations that the club acted disrespectfully by not attending the Paris ceremony. However, this major act of solidarity reflects a shift towards supporting humanitarian causes amid the criticism.
Real Madrid’s official statement highlights their commitment to helping those affected by the natural disaster:
"The Real Madrid Foundation and the Red Cross have launched a campaign to collect funds to support those impacted by the storm. Real Madrid has chosen to contribute €1 million to aid many families currently in a critical situation who need all our support and solidarity," the club announced.
The La Liga match between Real Madrid and Valencia was scheduled to take place at the Mestalla Stadium this weekend, but La Liga has postponed the game due to the severe flooding, with the fixture to be rescheduled at a later date.
