Slovenian midfielder Tamar Svetlin is closing in on a high-profile move to French club Saint-Étienne after just one season in the Ekstraklasa.

Despite having multiple options abroad following an impressive campaign in Poland, the 25-year-old former Celje and Domžale midfielder has chosen France as his next destination. Saint-Étienne, currently led by former Arsenal and AC Milan chief executive Ivan Gazidis, have moved quickly to secure his signature.

Record fee for Korona Kielce

The transaction will mark a historic financial windfall for Korona Kielce. The Polish side is set to receive a record transfer fee, which could reach up to €3 million once all performance-related bonuses are activated. Svetlin's market value is currently estimated at €2.5 million on Transfermarkt.

Svetlin is scheduled to undergo his medical examination in France, with the official contract signing expected on Sunday.

Aiming for a Ligue 1 return

Saint-Étienne will compete in Ligue 2 this season, with their primary objective being a swift return to the top flight of French football.

Svetlin will not be the first Slovenian to wear the green shirt; former Slovenian international striker Robert Berić enjoyed a highly successful spell at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium during his career, leaving a strong legacy for Svetlin to build upon.
