French goalkeeper Brice Samba leaves Lens for Rennes in a surprising €14M transfer, signing a contract until 2029 as Rennes reshapes its squad.

Rennes has announced the signing of Brice Samba, who leaves Lens after a strong first half of the season. The 30-year-old French international goalkeeper has signed a contract until 2029, with the transfer fee reported to be €14 million. The move raised eyebrows, as Samba departs a team competing for European spots for Rennes, currently sitting in 13th place.

Samba, a product of Le Havre’s academy, has previously played for clubs including Marseille, Nancy, Caen, and Nottingham Forest, before joining Lens in 2022, where he quickly established himself as a key player.

This signing marks Rennes’ second acquisition of the January transfer window, following the arrival of Seko Fofana from Al Nassr. The club has recently undergone significant changes, with 64-year-old Jorge Sampaoli taking over as head coach. Under his guidance, Rennes has recorded three wins and three losses in six matches, as they look to improve their performance in the second half of the season.

Rennes is also rumored to be in talks for Moroccan playmaker Hakim Ziyech, who is reportedly out of favor at Galatasaray.
