The shocking news of Álvaro Morata and his wife Alice Campello's split came as a surprise to fans last month when the couple announced they were going their separate ways after seven years of marriage.
The glamorous couple, who met in 2016, share four children: twins Alessandro and Leonardo, 6, Edoardo, 4, and Bella, 1.
While the pair initially kept the reasons for their divorce private, recent reports from Marca suggest that a family dispute following the Euro 2024 final was a key factor. It is alleged that after Spain's 2-1 victory over England, Alice wanted only herself, their four children, and her friends to join Morata on the pitch for celebrations. This decision excluded Morata’s parents and other family members, which reportedly led to a major strain on their relationship.
Compounding the tension, The Mail also claimed that Morata was accused of being in explicit photographs with another woman. However, Alice quickly dismissed these rumors, describing them as “bulls**t” and emphasizing that both she and Morata remain on good terms.
Addressing these rumors, Morata said, "I am tired of people saying that I was unfaithful to Alice because I didn’t even go to the national team party so that this type of rumor wouldn’t arise. Since then I haven’t spoken to anyone out of respect for her and so that this type of news doesn’t arise."
Financial matters also appear to be amicably settled. According to Vamos a Ver, the couple had previously signed a community property agreement, meaning that all earnings during the marriage will be divided equally. Morata reportedly has no issue with giving up half of his salary from that time and is not seeking profits from Alice’s business ventures, with both parties keen to avoid a court battle.
Morata, who recently joined AC Milan after leaving Atletico Madrid post-Euros, stunned fans with his divorce announcement on Instagram, where he reflected on the relationship: "After a period of reflection, Alice and I have taken the decision to take separate paths. It was a marvellous relationship with mutual respect in which we have loved and helped each other so much. We have had some wonderful years and have our four children to show for it, which is without doubt the best thing we have ever done. It is a painful decision, after which we ask for respect and empathy. Please don’t invent any rumors, because I repeat - there have been no breaches of trust, just a lot of continuous misunderstandings that have little by little worn things down. Alice will always have a special place in my heart, and the time that we have spent together has been incredible and a great learning experience."
Alice echoed these sentiments in her own post, saying, "Álvaro and I have decided to separate, and it is the most difficult decision we have ever made in our lives. I want to make it clear, as he has, that there have been no third parties or any kind of disrespect from either of us. I can only say that in these eight years, I have had a person by my side who has done nothing but prioritize me, take care of me, and respect me, and for that reason, I cannot allow any kind of false speculation. I don’t want you to think that anything you have seen in the Instagram photos we've been posting is a lie. We couldn’t have loved each other more, and we continue to do so, but there comes a time when many misunderstandings accumulate, are poorly managed, and things gradually deteriorate and explode."
She added, "We have always promised each other to respect everything we have lived through, to never reach the point of hurting each other or being toxic, and to end things before that happens, and that is what we’ve done. I just want to thank Álvaro for everything he has done for me, for how he has taken care of me, for being the father and husband he has been, and to wish him the best always."
