Wrexham will tour Australia and New Zealand in July 2025, facing Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix in pre-season as part of their global expansion under Reynolds and McElhenney.

Wrexham AFC are going global once again — but this time, they’re heading in a new direction. After two summers touring North America, the Red Dragons will take their 2025 pre-season campaign to Australia and New Zealand, the club confirmed today.

Led by Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham will face three A-League clubs in mid-July:

  • Melbourne Victory – July 11 at Marvel Stadium
  • Sydney FC – July 15 at Allianz Stadium
  • Wellington Phoenix – July 19 at Sky Stadium

“From the very beginning, we wanted to help make Wrexham a globally recognised team, town and brand,” Reynolds and McElhenney said in a joint statement. “We could not be more excited to bring the Red Dragons to Australia and New Zealand.”

The trip marks the latest milestone in Wrexham’s rapid rise under their ownership. Following a third successive promotion, the Welsh side will play in the Championship next season — and pre-season in the Southern Hemisphere is part of their continued global strategy.

Club officials across Australia and New Zealand welcomed the news:

Melbourne Victory managing director Caroline Carnegie said: “To play a team with such a rich history, in front of our passionate and loyal fans at Marvel Stadium, will be a fantastic experience.”

Sydney FC CEO Mark Aubrey added: “Facing a team with such momentum, driven by the passion of Rob and Ryan, is a fantastic opportunity for our club.”

Wellington Phoenix GM David Dome concluded: “Wrexham have had an incredible rise to the Championship and I know our players can't wait to test themselves. I also look forward to catching up with Rob and Ryan over a pint of Wrexham lager at The Welsh Dragon!”

The tour is expected to feature new signings ahead of Wrexham’s first campaign in the second tier since 1982. With their docuseries *Welcome to Wrexham* continuing to boost the club’s international following, the Red Dragons are embracing their role as one of the most talked-about lower-league stories in modern football.
