Rio Ngumoha has etched his name into Liverpool's history books, becoming the club’s youngest-ever starter at just 16 years, 4 months, and 14 days old.
The young forward was included in the starting lineup for Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round clash against Accrington Stanley, breaking the previous record held by Trey Nyoni (16 years, 8 months, 8 days) set last year.
The England youth international joined Liverpool last summer from Chelsea’s Academy after requesting a move. The transfer was approved by the Premier League, allowing Liverpool to secure one of England’s most promising young talents.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised Ngumoha’s fearlessness in training: "It's special. Every time Rio trains with us, he's not afraid to do what he's good at." Slot’s faith in the teenager was evident as he handed him this historic opportunity in a key cup fixture.
Ngumoha’s rapid rise has already attracted attention from both fans and pundits. Known for his pace, technical ability, and composure beyond his years, he is widely regarded as a future star for both club and country.
This debut marks a significant milestone in what could be a promising career for Ngumoha, who now has the platform to continue developing at one of the world’s biggest clubs.
