Kaitlin Olson has hilariously addressed the Rob Mac–Kim Kardashian dating rumor, which her husband started, confirming it was just an elaborate prank he played on their children.
Kaitlin Olson has set the record straight after her husband, Rob Mac — co-owner of Wrexham AFC and star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia — jokingly claimed he once dated Kim Kardashian. The rumour began as a family prank but quickly spiralled into viral gossip.
Olson revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that while she was away filming Disney+’s High Potential, her husband decided to entertain their children, Axel and Leo, with a made-up story that he used to date the world-famous reality star. McElhenney even enlisted a friend to create a fake, digitally aged photograph as “proof.”
“I came home the other day and we were having dinner,” Olson recalled. “The boys looked at me and said, ‘Mum, did dad date Kim Kardashian before you?’ I was like, ‘Okay, here we go.’ He doubled down on it! So I played along — I said, ‘Yeah, they dated. We both dated people before.’”
The actress explained how the prank snowballed after one of McElhenney’s staff members at his production company, More Better Industries, took things to another level by crafting an old photo and adding a handwritten note from a fictional Kardashian marketing manager. Olson laughed: “She took this very seriously. I was like, ‘Is there nothing else to do over there?’”
While the Kardashian story was nothing more than a joke, Olson praised her husband’s genuine achievements as Wrexham’s co-owner alongside Ryan Reynolds. The Hollywood duo have helped the Welsh club achieve three straight promotions and a global following through their hit documentary Welcome to Wrexham.
Olson recently shared her pride on social media after Wrexham’s historic rise to the Championship, writing: “Absolutely unbelievable! (Except @robmcelhenney always believed…) Congratulations to @wrexham_afc and the entire Wrexham community on making history with back to back TO BACK promotions!”
Despite a growing list of celebrity visitors to the Racecourse Ground — including Will Ferrell, Channing Tatum, Paul Rudd, and Eva Longoria — Kim Kardashian herself has yet to make an appearance. But given her love for football’s biggest stars like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, fans wouldn’t rule it out just yet.
