Robert Lewandowski experienced an emotional farewell at Barcelona after playing his final home match for the club at Camp Nou.
The Polish striker received a hero’s goodbye as Barcelona defeated Real Betis 3-1 in a night dominated by emotion rather than the result itself.
Barcelona had already secured the La Liga title, but all attention focused on the 37-year-old forward after he confirmed he would leave the club when his contract expires.
Coach Hansi Flick gave Lewandowski a special honor by naming him captain for his final appearance in front of the home supporters.
“He deserves to be paid tribute to by all the fans,” Flick said before kickoff.
The atmosphere around the stadium made it clear that this would be a special evening.
Thousands of supporters arrived wearing Lewandowski’s famous number nine shirt, while many Polish fans traveled to Barcelona carrying flags and banners reading:
“Lewy the legend.”
Although Lewandowski did not score, every touch of the ball received a huge reaction from the crowd.
Raphinha scored twice for Barcelona, while Joao Cancelo added another goal in the victory.
The most emotional moment arrived in the 85th minute when Flick decided to substitute Lewandowski.
The entire stadium rose to its feet and applauded the striker during a long standing ovation.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta joined the applause as Lewandowski embraced teammates and coaching staff in tears.
According to reports from Spain, the emotions were so intense that the striker even forgot to hand over the captain’s armband.
The farewell continued after the final whistle.
Lewandowski returned to the pitch with his wife Anna and their daughters before being lifted into the air by teammates.
Laporta presented him with a commemorative sculpture featuring the Barcelona crest, while the club shared a powerful message on social media:
“One of ours. Forever.”
Lewandowski then addressed the supporters directly.
“It was a very emotional and difficult day.”
“When I arrived at Barcelona, I knew I was coming to a big club, but here I experienced an incredible chapter of my life.”
“From day one I felt at home. I will never forget how you shouted my name.”
Lewandowski leaves Barcelona after four highly successful seasons.
During his time at the club, he scored 119 goals in 192 matches and won:
• 3 La Liga titles
• 1 Copa del Rey
• 3 Spanish Super Cups
He currently ranks 14th among Barcelona’s all-time top scorers.
His final appearance for the club is expected to come next week against Valencia.
