Spanish midfielder and Manchester City star Rodri celebrated his Ballon d'Or win with a playful song, clarifying his intentions afterward.
After being named the best player at this year’s Ballon d'Or ceremony, Rodri was seen in a viral video celebrating his award to the tune of "Bella Ciao," the famous Italian anti-fascist song from World War II. Instead of singing "bella ciao," Rodri and his friends humorously chanted "Vinicius ciao," referencing his rival, Vinicius Junior.
The incident sparked conversation, especially since Real Madrid had boycotted the Paris ceremony. Spanish media focused more on Real’s absence than on Spain’s first Ballon d'Or win since Luis Suárez in 1960. Rodri’s celebration became another hot topic.
Rodri later explained the situation, clarifying that he meant no disrespect to his competitor, who placed second.
"People need to understand—it’s a healthy rivalry. It was a private party. If we placed a camera in each of our homes… I wasn’t disrespectful; it’s just rivalry. I respect Vinicius," Rodri stated.
