Rodrygo equals unwanted Real Madrid record with 30 games without a goal

Rodrygo has now gone 30 matches without scoring for Real Madrid, equalling Mariano Diaz’s unwanted record and deepening doubts about his future at the Bernabéu.

Real Madrid are beginning to regret not selling Rodrygo when they had the chance. The Brazilian forward’s form has completely collapsed, and after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Girona, he reached an unwanted milestone — 30 consecutive matches without scoring.

Not even Mariano Diaz, one of Madrid’s most heavily criticised strikers in recent years, endured such a prolonged drought. Now, Rodrygo stands alongside him in the record books for all the wrong reasons, as no Real Madrid striker before them has gone so long without finding the net.

The club had the opportunity to sell Rodrygo in the summer of 2024, when Manchester City reportedly made a serious offer. At the time, Madrid refused, believing the 23-year-old could still be a key figure alongside new signing Kylian Mbappe. However, the warning signs were already there.

In the 2024/25 season, Rodrygo managed just six goals and six assists in La Liga, a disappointing return for a player expected to become part of Real’s long-term attacking core. His struggles continued into this campaign, with the forward failing to score in 18 appearances so far across all competitions — including the Club World Cup.

Rodrygo’s last goal came back on March 4 in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid, while his final La Liga strike dates back to January 19 against Las Palmas. Since then, the drought has stretched month after month, leaving fans and analysts baffled by his rapid decline.

Spanish media reports suggest that personal problems may be affecting the Brazilian’s confidence and performances. With competition for attacking places fiercer than ever — and Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham all producing consistently — Rodrygo’s future at the Bernabéu looks increasingly uncertain.

What was once the exciting “Vinicius–Rodrygo” partnership now feels like a fading memory. Unless the 23-year-old rediscovers his sharpness soon, Real Madrid may be forced to make a definitive decision — one they avoided last summer but may not delay much longer.
