Romelu Lukaku has returned to training after a four-month injury absence and could be available for Napoli later this week in the Italian Super Cup, Italian media have reported.
The Belgium striker, who turns 32, suffered a thigh injury in mid-August during a pre-season friendly against Olympiacos, sidelining him at the start of the campaign. His prolonged absence forced Napoli to seek cover in the summer transfer window, bringing in Rasmus Højlund from Manchester United.
Napoli’s attack strengthened
Lukaku has been a Napoli player since last summer and has already made a significant impact when fit. In 38 appearances for the club, he has registered 14 goals and 11 assists, underlining his importance to the squad.
At international level, Lukaku remains Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer with 89 goals, further highlighting his pedigree ahead of a potential return to competitive action.
Super Cup in Riyadh
Napoli face AC Milan in the Italian Super Cup semi-final on 18 December, with the tournament taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The other semi-final, between Bologna and Inter, is scheduled for 19 December, while the final will be played on 22 December.
Whether Lukaku is deemed ready to feature remains to be seen, but his return to training has provided Napoli with a timely boost ahead of the Super Cup showdown.
