Football legend Ronaldinho, 45, is set to become a grandfather as his son Joao Mendes, 19, and girlfriend Giovanna Buscacio announce they are expecting their first child.
Ronaldinho, the iconic Brazilian footballer and former Barcelona star, is preparing for a new chapter in his life: becoming a grandfather at just 45. His son, Joao Mendes, and Joao’s influencer girlfriend, Giovanna Buscacio, announced on Instagram that they are expecting their first child together.
Giovanna, 25, who has over 130,000 Instagram followers, shared a heartfelt post revealing she is 16 weeks pregnant. Alongside a selfie showcasing her baby bump, she wrote, "16 weeks and counting," accompanied by baby emojis. She later shared photos with Joao and captioned them, "Mom and dad. Incomplete without you my love, but we are already together." Joao responded lovingly, saying, "I love you a lot, my darling."
Joao Mendes, currently playing for Burnley U21s after signing with the English club last August, is Ronaldinho’s only child. The 19-year-old started his football career in Brazil with Cruzeiro before moving to Barcelona’s youth academy. Despite showing promise, he was let go by Barcelona in 2023 and signed with Burnley, where he primarily plays as a right winger. His current contract runs until June 2026.
Joao’s mother, Janaina Mendes, a former dancer, met Ronaldinho during her time on a popular Brazilian TV show. She now lives in Barcelona. Joao and Giovanna, who have been together for over two years, currently reside in Manchester, England, and have documented their life together on social media.
Ronaldinho, who turns 45 in March, has yet to comment publicly on the exciting news. The legendary player, who won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and dazzled fans with his magical skills, now adds "grandfather" to his impressive life achievements.
