Brazilian legend Ronaldo has sold Spanish club Real Valladolid for €50 million after years of poor results, fan unrest, and three relegations during his ownership.
Ronaldo Nazário has officially ended his seven-year tenure as majority owner of Real Valladolid, selling the Spanish club to an international investment group for €50 million.
The former Brazilian superstar, considered one of the greatest footballers of all time, took control of the club in 2018 with promises of turning Valladolid into a stable La Liga side with European ambitions. However, his time in charge failed to live up to expectations.
During his ownership, Valladolid were relegated three times and finished this season bottom of the league, collecting just 16 points—the worst tally in the division and 16 fewer than second-from-bottom Las Palmas.
Fan frustration grew as Ronaldo became an increasingly absent figure, and many supporters blamed him for the club's continued decline. His rare visits and lack of sporting success led to mounting protests from the stands, echoing similar discontent seen at other Spanish clubs with foreign ownership.
With today's sale, Ronaldo’s chapter at Valladolid is officially closed. Spanish outlet Marca reports that the club has been sold to a consortium made up of investors from the United States, Mexico, and Europe. The group is reportedly led by Mexican businessman Gabriel Solares, former president of Liga MX side Querétaro.
Valladolid is expected to officially unveil the new ownership group in the coming days, with supporters now hoping for fresh direction and a long-awaited return to top-flight stability.
