Cristiano Ronaldo has officially hit 40 years old, and speculation about his potential marriage to long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez continues to circulate.
Despite years of rumors, the couple has never publicly confirmed tying the knot.
Ronaldo and Georgina met in 2016 at a Gucci store in Madrid, and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has described their meeting as “magical”. Since then, their relationship has flourished, with the couple sharing two children together while Rodriguez also acts as a stepmother to Ronaldo’s other three children.
Engagement rumors through the years
Speculation about their marriage began as early as 2018, when Rodriguez was seen wearing a £615,000 Cartier ring during Portugal’s World Cup match against Morocco. Reports from Correio da Manhã suggested Ronaldo had proposed, but the footballer shut down the rumors later that year.
Rodriguez addressed the speculation in an interview with Hola!, saying, “What if Cristiano asked me to marry him? Not for now, but I would love to.”
In 2019, Ronaldo gave a more definitive response in an interview with Piers Morgan, confirming that marriage was in their future. “Why not? Not now! Not in this interview. Why not, one day... We’ll one day, for sure. It’s my mum’s dream,” he said.
Hints of a secret wedding?
Although no public confirmation has been made, many believe that Ronaldo and Georgina may have already tied the knot in secret.
The Al-Nassr star has repeatedly referred to Rodriguez as his “wife”. In early 2024, he spoke on the Whoop Podcast, stating that his morning routine includes “speaking with his wife.” A YouTube video uploaded last year showed the couple playing a game of "Mr. and Mrs.," both wearing what appeared to be wedding rings.
At an awards ceremony in Dubai in late 2023, Ronaldo referred to Georgina as his “wife” during his acceptance speech after winning the Best Middle Eastern Player award.
Even in January 2024, Ronaldo took to Instagram to celebrate Rodriguez’s 31st birthday, writing: "For the mother, partner, friend, my wife… happy birthday, love. Your light illuminates us and your love infects us."
While no official wedding announcement has been made, the repeated references and public displays continue to fuel speculation. As Ronaldo enters his 40s, fans eagerly await what seems to be an inevitable confirmation of marriage.
