Ruben Amorim insists on having significant influence over Manchester United’s recruitment process, saying the coach must have a major say as they’re judged on results.

Ruben Amorim will take charge of his first game as Manchester United manager this Sunday at 5:30 PM, when the team faces Ipswich Town away. Speaking at his first press conference since arriving from Sporting Lisbon, the 39-year-old Portuguese coach emphasized the importance of his involvement in United’s transfer dealings.

"We need to work together, and to do that, we need to improve the recruitment process: the data on players and the profiles we want," Amorim said. "I need to have a firm say on this because I’m the coach and I know how we need to play. It’s a team effort, but the final word should go to the coach—not just because it’s their right, but because it’s their responsibility. In the end, it’s the coach who will be judged on results."

Amorim dismissed the media’s typical rush to speculate about drastic decisions, stating he intends to approach the situation patiently and deliberately. "I need to understand the league. When everything aligns, and everyone is on the same page, then we can make decisions about buying or selling players."

When pressed further about how much control he will have in the notoriously complex and hierarchical world of privately owned clubs like Manchester United, Amorim clarified: "It’s not about having the final word, but I have a big responsibility when it comes to selecting players. This is how it needs to be done. I’m the head coach, so I need to have the authority to choose players."

As United prepare to face 17th-placed Ipswich, Amorim hopes his methods and ideas will bring stability to a team desperately looking for improvement after a turbulent season.
