Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim dismissed the significance of Ed Sheeran interrupting his post-match interview while reflecting on the stark differences between media culture in England and Portugal.
Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s new manager, has downplayed the awkward moment when pop star Ed Sheeran interrupted his post-match interview after United’s 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town. The incident occurred during Amorim’s first game in charge, as Sheeran greeted commentator Jamie Redknapp, leaving Amorim momentarily sidelined.
In a press conference, Amorim shrugged off the incident, stating: "In England, you overcomplicate things. In Portugal, it is so different. He was just saying hello to one of the commentators and it was nothing. I was with Roy Keane, and he is one of the stars. It’s OK."
Adapting to English Media Culture
Amorim, known for his straightforward approach with the media, acknowledged the challenges of navigating the intense scrutiny that comes with managing Manchester United. He addressed the backlash after his apparent criticism of Jonny Evans for not pressing Ipswich’s goalscorer, Omari Hutchinson, clarifying: "I have to use the names of the players to explain situations to you guys. It was not a problem with the players; it was about me and my ideas."
The United boss emphasized his team’s tactical adaptability, adding: "We have to play in different systems because nowadays teams change their dynamics. The power of this structure is to change formation in each game."
Injury Updates
Amorim provided updates on United’s squad ahead of their Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt on Thursday and their Premier League fixture against Everton on Sunday:
Lisandro Martinez is expected to return for the next game.
Harry Maguire remains sidelined due to injury. Promising youngster
Leny Yoro has returned to full training after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in pre-season. Amorim stated:
"We are preparing the best way to start with Leny." First Home Game as United Manager
Amorim will take charge of his first home game on Thursday when United face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. His first Premier League game at Old Trafford is set for Sunday, when United host Everton. Both matches are seen as crucial opportunities for Amorim to establish his tactical vision and build momentum.
