Russian Football Union President Aleksander Dyukov says talks are underway regarding the return of Russian clubs to UEFA competitions after being suspended due to the war in Ukraine.
The president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Aleksander Dyukov, has revealed that discussions are ongoing regarding the possible return of Russian clubs to UEFA competitions. Since 2022, both the Russian national team and clubs have been banned from participating in European tournaments due to the war in Ukraine.
However, Dyukov is optimistic about Russia’s future in European football, claiming that the situation is improving.
"Numerous meetings and conferences are taking place that may lead to decisions accelerating our country's return to European football competitions. My experience tells me that the decision will be made sooner or later. It seems to me that the positions of other federations are changing from month to month," Dyukov said confidently.
Since the onset of the war, Russian clubs have only competed in domestic leagues, while the national team has faced a limited pool of opponents, mainly outside Europe. In 2024, Valery Karpin's Russian squad has played friendlies against Serbia (4-0), Belarus (4-0), and Vietnam (3-0), among others.
