The former Rangers winger is poised for a fresh start in Major League Soccer after a frustrating spell in Turkey.
Ryan Kent is on the verge of ending his five-month footballing exile, with the Seattle Sounders reportedly in advanced talks to sign the former Rangers winger on a two-year deal, according to reports from the United States.
The 28-year-old has been without a club since his contract with Fenerbahçe was terminated in October, following a difficult stint in Turkey. Kent made just 19 appearances for the Istanbul side after joining from Rangers in the summer of 2023, with his last competitive outing coming back in July during a Champions League qualifier.
After initially being signed by Ismail Kartal, Kent quickly fell out of favour and was frozen out by José Mourinho, featuring only twice in 2024. Despite scoring on his debut, the former Liverpool youth product failed to establish himself in the Turkish Super Lig.
Next stop: the United States
Now, with the MLS season underway, Seattle Sounders appear ready to offer Kent a chance to revive his career in a new environment. If the deal is completed, it would mark the fifth country Kent has played in, following spells in England, Germany, Scotland, and Turkey.
The winger had previously been linked with a return to Rangers and attracted interest from La Liga sides Villarreal and Real Sociedad, but neither option materialised.
Kent enjoyed his best years at Ibrox, initially joining on loan under Steven Gerrard in 2018, before sealing a £7 million permanent move in 2019. He played a key role in Rangers' 2021 title win and their run to the Europa League final in 2022, finishing his time at the club with 33 goals in 218 appearances.
Although his final seasons in Glasgow saw a dip in form, Kent remained a fan favourite, and his next chapter now appears set to unfold stateside.
