Porto thrashes Boavista 4-0 with standout performances from Samu Aghehowa, Nico González, and Rodrigo Mora, claiming the provisional top spot in Liga Portugal.
Porto climbed to the top of Liga Portugal with a resounding 4-0 victory over Boavista at the Estádio do Dragão in the 16th round. Goals from Samu Aghehowa, Nico González, and 17-year-old Rodrigo Mora propelled the 'dragons' to the summit, pending Sunday’s derby between Sporting CP and Benfica.
Porto took the lead in the 31st minute when Samu Aghehowa capitalized on a precise cross from Martim Fernandes. The Melilla-born forward nearly doubled the lead just before halftime, but his shot missed the mark.
The second goal came in the 55th minute, courtesy of Nico González, who slotted the ball past Boavista’s goalkeeper after an assist from the talented Rodrigo Mora. Just four minutes later, the duo reversed roles, with Mora scoring Porto's third after a left-footed strike assisted by Nico.
The night’s final goal was delivered by Samu, who sealed the rout in the 88th minute with his 13th goal in 13 matches, cementing his status as one of the season’s standout performers.
Porto’s win places them in the provisional lead with 40 points, ahead of Sporting CP (37 points) and Benfica (38 points), who face off in Sunday’s Lisbon derby. Depending on the result, Porto could maintain their position or face a tight race at the top of the table.
