Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation, has been suspended for six months by FIFA for disciplinary violations during the Women's U20 World Cup.
Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, has been suspended for six months by FIFA's disciplinary committee due to disciplinary violations, the world football governing body announced.
The former football star, who has been leading the Cameroon Football Federation since December 2021, will be banned from attending all matches involving Cameroon’s men's and women's teams, across all age groups, during the suspension period.
Eto’o was penalized due to an incident that took place during the U20 Women’s World Cup round of 16 match between Cameroon and Brazil on September 11 in Bogota. While FIFA did not disclose specific details of the incident, they stated that Eto’o was found guilty of "offensive behavior and violating the principles of fair play," as well as "misconduct involving match officials."
This suspension follows a fine issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for breaching "ethical standards and integrity regulations."
Eto'o, who had an illustrious playing career with clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Everton, remains Cameroon’s all-time leading scorer with 56 goals in 118 appearances for the national team.
