Santos is one of the most historic clubs in Brazilian football, but its biggest limitation remains its small stadium, Vila Belmiro, which has a capacity of just 16,500 spectators.

Home to legends like Pelé and, more recently, Neymar, Santos has always commanded a massive fanbase. However, the club’s infrastructure has struggled to keep up with its global appeal.

The issue has become even more evident following Neymar’s return. In just two days, Santos gained 20,000 new members, bringing the total to 70,000—almost five times the stadium’s capacity. Demand for tickets has skyrocketed, and the club has also gained 3.5 million new social media followers in a matter of days.

Aware of the stadium’s limitations, Santos had already approved plans to build a new 30,000-40,000 seat venue at the same site. However, the project stalled due to financial and sporting struggles, culminating in the club’s first-ever relegation to the Brazilian second division.

Now, with Neymar’s return reigniting global interest, the club may need to revisit its stadium plans sooner than expected.
