Former Real Madrid star Guti disapproves of Lamine Yamal’s press conference attire and urges the teenager to show more respect while representing Spain.
Guti, the former Real Madrid and Spain midfielder, has openly criticized 17-year-old star Lamine Yamal for his attitude during a recent press conference with the national team.
After Spain’s victory over France, Yamal appeared in front of the media with his cap turned inside out, a fashion choice that didn’t sit well with Guti, who emphasized the importance of professionalism when wearing national colours.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone at a press conference with their cap on backwards like that. I don’t like it. Especially when you’re representing Spain,” Guti said.
He added that “when he’s in Ibiza, he can do whatever he wants. But not here. This is the national team. And it’s not just his fault, it’s the fault of those around him too.”
The 48-year-old also acknowledged the generational gap, admitting, “Maybe I’m old, but it really bothers me.”
Yamal has received widespread praise for his on-pitch talent, but Guti’s remarks serve as a rare note of caution about how the teenage sensation handles the spotlight off the pitch.
