Napoli has confirmed that Scott McTominay will undergo a minimally invasive cardiac procedure after doctors discovered a mild benign arrhythmia.

Napoli has announced that one of their most important players, Scott McTominay, will undergo a heart procedure in the coming days after being diagnosed with a mild benign arrhythmia.
The news initially caused concern in Naples, but the Italian club stressed that the 29-year-old Scotland international will undergo a minimally invasive catheter-based procedure rather than open-heart surgery.
Napoli expect McTominay's absence to be relatively short. If his recovery proceeds as planned, the midfielder should return after the upcoming international break and could be available again as early as October 6.
" Following the development of a mild benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay will undergo a corrective intervention via ablation of cardiac arrhythmia (PFA) in the coming days. He will be available again after the international break," Napoli announced.
What procedure will McTominay undergo?
McTominay will undergo catheter ablation, a procedure used to target the heart tissue responsible for abnormal electrical signals. A catheter is guided through a blood vessel, usually from the groin area, towards the heart, allowing doctors to treat the affected area without open surgery.
The diagnosis temporarily interrupts another excellent period in McTominay's career. The midfielder came through the Manchester United academy and established himself in the first team under José Mourinho, eventually making 255 appearances during seven seasons at senior level.
His move to Napoli transformed his career. McTominay immediately helped the Italian club win the Serie A title, was named the league's best player and quickly became one of the supporters' favourites.
Across his first two seasons in Naples, the Scotland international has recorded 82 appearances and 27 goals. He has already featured twice this season, with Napoli now expecting to have one of their key players back shortly after the international break.
