Serbian hero of Milan: “It wasn’t easy – I never thought about leaving”

Strahinja Pavlović has become Milan’s newest hero after scoring the decisive goal in the 1–0 victory over Roma, sealing three vital points in the Serie A title race.

The Serbian defender struck in the 39th minute after Rafael Leão’s run down the left flank and clever cut-back, beating fellow countryman Mile Svilar with a composed finish. The win lifted Milan into the top four, joining the leading pack separated by just a single point.

“A very important win”

After the match, Pavlović couldn’t hide his delight:

“It was a very important win. I’m happy the coach gives me freedom, and I’m proud I could score. Coach Allegri has helped me a lot to grow, both as a player and as part of the team,” he said.

Pavlović explained how closely he follows Massimiliano Allegri’s instructions. “This year many teams are fighting for the Scudetto, and it will be tough until the end. I love scoring goals, and the coach values my runs forward. When I was running toward goal, I remembered his words: ‘When Rafa starts running, find the space and get into position.’ That’s exactly what I did.”

From tough beginnings to leadership role

The 23-year-old admits the adaptation period in Italy was difficult but believes those early challenges made him stronger.

“Serie A is much tougher than other leagues — it’s far more tactical. My first season here wasn’t easy. I had to learn when to run, when to wait, and how to defend one-on-one situations. Allegri has helped me improve and grow as part of this team,” Pavlović explained.

Despite summer rumours linking him with a move away, he insists leaving was never on his mind. “I never thought about leaving. Since the start of the season, my goals have been clear, and I’ve always been focused on them.”

So far this campaign, Pavlović has made 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and registering one assist — numbers that highlight how integral he has become to Milan’s system.
