The League Managers Association (LMA) has awarded the Hull City coach its Performance of the Week prize following his team's sensational 2-0 victory over Manchester United on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.
The award is decided by an expert panel and recognises the most impressive managerial performance of the round, with factors including the strength of the opposition, quality of the performance and circumstances surrounding the result all taken into consideration.
Jakirović's incredible start continues
The Mostar-born coach, who previously managed Zrinjski, Rijeka, Dinamo Zagreb and Maribor, celebrated the recognition on social media and described receiving the trophy as a great honour.
Jakirović dedicated the award to his players, coaching staff and Hull City supporters, while stressing that the team must continue working hard ahead of the challenges waiting for them in the Premier League.
The victory against Manchester United was not an isolated surprise either. Hull followed it by beating Coventry City last weekend, meaning the newly promoted Tigers have a perfect record after their opening two league matches.
Jakirović therefore has six points from six at the start of Hull's Premier League adventure – a remarkable beginning for a manager who entered the season under considerable pressure.
After defeating Manchester United, following it with another victory and now receiving recognition from the LMA, Jakirović has quickly become one of the early stories of the new Premier League season.
