Sergio Ramos marked his 39th birthday with a not-so-subtle jab at Atletico Madrid, referencing his iconic 93rd-minute goal in the 2014 Champions League final.

Sergio Ramos turned 39 this week, but the former Real Madrid captain celebrated the occasion in typically defiant style—with a cheeky reminder of one of the most painful moments in Atletico Madrid’s history.

Now playing for Rayados in Mexico, Ramos posted a birthday message on social media thanking his loved ones and expressing his gratitude for still doing what he loves. But eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed the twist: on his birthday cake, the number wasn’t 39, but 93—a clear nod to the 93rd-minute header he scored in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico.

That unforgettable goal, which levelled the match deep into stoppage time, crushed Atletico's hopes of their first Champions League title. Real Madrid went on to win 4-1 in extra time, securing their long-awaited La Décima.

“39 years old and lucky to keep celebrating doing what I love, surrounded by the people I love. Age is just a number. I feel better than ever, with the same excitement as when the journey began,” Ramos wrote. “Thank you all for sharing this special day with me. Here’s to many more! Happy birthday to me!”

While Ramos didn’t directly mention Atletico, the “93” cake sparked a flood of reactions—especially among Real Madrid fans, who instantly recognised the troll. After 16 seasons, 671 games, and countless battles—including multiple derbies—Ramos clearly hasn’t lost his flair for needle and narrative.

With 180 caps for Spain, a trophy-laden career, and still active at 39, Ramos remains one of football’s most iconic defenders—and one of its most unapologetic characters.
