Sevilla have sacked sporting director Victor Orta after a failed season in which his four striker signings failed to score a single La Liga goal. Fans welcome the decision.

Sevilla have sacked sporting director Victor Orta following a disastrous season marked by poor signings and a close brush with relegation. The move, widely reported today, has been met with strong approval from fans.

Orta, 46, arrived from Leeds United last summer as the successor to Sevilla legend Monchi, but failed to meet expectations in Andalusia. Despite some promising signings, the majority of his transfer decisions were heavily criticised—particularly in the attacking department.

Orta brought in four new strikers—Kelechi Iheanacho, Mariano Diaz, Che Adams, and Ale Veliz—but none of them managed to score a single La Liga goal all season. The lack of firepower played a major role in Sevilla's struggles, as they narrowly escaped relegation from Spain’s top flight.

Sevilla, who finished fourth in La Liga in 2021/22, have now endured two miserable seasons and haven’t ranked higher than 12th place since that campaign. The club's decline, combined with a lack of impactful transfers, ultimately sealed Orta’s fate.

Supporters are now hoping for a more capable sporting director to lead the recruitment and steer the club back toward European competition. The search for Orta's replacement is already underway.
