Shameful scenes from the Slovenian league: commentator counted 77 fans, the federation “reported” 250

A Prva liga match in Ljubljana exposed the harsh reality of Slovenian football, with nearly empty stands and disputed attendance figures raising uncomfortable questions.

Slovenia’s largest stadium, Stožice Stadium, once again produced a scene that borders on the surreal: a league match played in front of virtually nobody. The Prva liga fixture between NK Bravo and NŠ Mura posed a brutal question: who is Slovenia’s top flight actually being played for?

With a capacity of around 16,000, Stožice hosted a game shrouded in silence. Mura claimed the points, but the celebration felt hollow, shared with empty concrete terraces. The images once again stripped Slovenian club football to its core problem: a league that the public simply does not follow.

In a country where even 1,000 spectators are considered a very good attendance, such matches are becoming the rule rather than the exception. During the broadcast, Sportklub commentator Goran Obrez did something telling — he counted the crowd himself.

The result? Exactly 77 people. Not 700. Not 300. Seventy-seven.

The absurdity deepened when the official match report from the Football Association of Slovenia listed an attendance of 250 — more than three times what was visible to the naked eye. Who is right? One glance at the photos from the stadium provides the answer.

Slovenian football remains stuck in a vicious circle: empty stands, a flat atmosphere, and a league often played in front of fewer people than would fit on a single city bus.
