Croatian media report that Gennaro Gattuso will leave Hajduk Split at the end of the season, following mounting criticism and a painful derby loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

A storm is brewing at Hajduk Split. Just a day after a painful defeat to eternal rivals Dinamo Zagreb, Croatian media, including Slobodna Dalmacija, report that Gennaro Gattuso is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Gattuso’s stint in Split has been far from smooth. Despite the club still mathematically in the Croatian title race, the football has been poor, progress has been lacking, and unsolved problems continue to plague the team.

According to reports, Gattuso had already decided to part ways with Hajduk even before Sunday’s derby loss. Sources suggest the Italian coach has been frustrated with internal club dynamics and feels he lacks sufficient support from the board. Though his contract runs until next season, Gattuso is expected to terminate it early.

The fiery Italian, whose coaching career has been anything but stable, is no stranger to new challenges. In just 12 years, he has managed Sion, Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Marseille, and now Hajduk Split. Croatian reports say he already has several options lined up for his next move.
