Michael Owen has revealed details of his final conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson before the Manchester United legend became unwell at Old Trafford.
Michael Owen has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson sounded completely normal and full of energy just hours before the Manchester United legend suffered a health scare at Old Trafford.
The 84-year-old former manager attended United’s Premier League clash against Liverpool but later began feeling unwell during the match.
Medical staff initially treated Ferguson inside the tunnel near the Stretford End before he was escorted to an ambulance for further checks.
He was later taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Speaking to talkSPORT, former United striker Owen admitted he was shocked by the news because he had spoken to Ferguson earlier that same morning.
"I spoke to him, I was on the phone with him for 40 minutes that morning," Owen explained.
"We talked about football and horses. He has horses here at Manor House Stables."
According to Owen, their conversations are part of a routine.
"Most Saturday mornings he gives me a call, and we go through all the horses for the day and share what we know."
"He sounded absolutely brilliant, sharp as a tack, as normal. We talked a lot about Scottish football and what was happening there."
"That’s why it was such a shock to hear he had been taken unwell, but hopefully it is not too serious."
Ferguson remains a regular visitor at Old Trafford and still has seats reserved in the directors’ box.
After news about the incident spread during the victory over Liverpool, supporters inside the stadium began chanting his name in support.
Interim manager Michael Carrick later admitted he had been deeply affected by the situation.
The legendary Scot retired from management in 2013 after building one of the greatest dynasties in football history, winning 13 Premier League titles with Manchester United.
The scare naturally caused concern because Ferguson previously suffered a serious brain haemorrhage in 2018 and underwent emergency surgery.
According to the latest information, however, he has now returned home and is recovering well.
