David Beckham has officially received his knighthood from King Charles, honouring his legendary football career and humanitarian work. His wife, Victoria, now becomes Lady Beckham.

David Beckham has finally received the honour many believed was long overdue. The Manchester United and England legend was knighted on Tuesday by King Charles, confirming his status among the most influential figures in British sporting history.

The ceremony took place in Berkshire and was attended by Beckham’s family, including wife Victoria — now officially known as Lady Beckham. The recognition was first announced in the King’s Birthday Honours list in June, acknowledging Beckham’s contributions to both football and charitable work.

Beckham’s rise to global fame began at Manchester United in the 1990s, where he emerged from the club’s academy to become part of the iconic Class of ’92. He went on to play a leading role in United’s 1999 treble-winning side under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He captained England from 2000 and delivered one of the nation’s most memorable moments with his last-minute free-kick against Greece to secure qualification for the 2002 World Cup — a defining redemption after his infamous red card at the 1998 tournament.

Beckham later joined Real Madrid in 2003, winning La Liga in his final season, before helping expand football’s global reach through his move to LA Galaxy and his role as co-owner of Inter Miami.

After also representing AC Milan and finishing his playing career at PSG in 2013, Beckham has remained active off the pitch through charity, business and ambassador roles. He has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005 and played a prominent role in London’s successful 2012 Olympic Games bid.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Beckham said:

“It’s a very proud day. I grew up in a humble family in East London, and my dream was to play for United and for my country. To be honoured like this today is incredible.”

He also shared personal appreciation for the moment:

“The monarchy has always meant a lot to my family. To receive this from His Majesty the King is truly special.”

Sir David Beckham. For many football fans, it has simply been a matter of time.

Now it is official.
