Spain will be significantly weakened in the European Championship semifinals.
After a grueling 125-minute battle, Spain eliminated Germany and advanced to the semifinals of the European Championship. However, the victory comes at a high cost as Spain will face the winner of the Portugal vs. France match without several key players.
Robin Le Normand received a yellow card in the first half, rendering him ineligible for the semifinal. In the last seconds of the match, Dani Carvajal was sent off with a second yellow card, and Alvaro Morata, who celebrated too enthusiastically from the bench, also received a yellow card, which was his second of the tournament.
Both Carvajal and Morata, alongside Le Normand, will miss the semifinal due to their suspensions.
Adding to Spain's woes, Pedri's status is highly uncertain. The Barcelona midfielder had to leave the match after just five minutes due to an injury. The Spanish Football Federation announced that Pedri suffered a sprain in his left knee and will undergo further examinations tomorrow. Given the intense schedule of the tournament, there is a significant concern that Pedri might have played his last game in this championship.
Coach Luis de la Fuente faces tough decisions ahead. Based on the current situation, it is likely that Nacho will replace Le Normand, Dani Olmo will start in place of Pedri, Joselu is the top candidate to replace Morata, and 38-year-old Jesus Navas is expected to fill in for Carvajal.
